Tim Hetherington Award at Sheffield Documentary Festival 2016

06/16

This year’s Tim Hetherington Award has been given to film-maker Tatiana Huezo for her powerful documentary ‘Tempestad’. The award was presented to Tatiana by Judith Hetherington at the closing ceremony at Sheffield Documentary Festival 2016.

Tempestad follows the emotional journeys of two women victimised by corruption and injustice in Mexico. Through the narration of their voices, we are drawn into the heart of their feelings, steeped in loss and pain, but also love, dignity and resistance.

The film reflects upon the memories of the victims and merges their narration with visuals which collage together to form a rich tapestry; creating a film which is memorable, experimental and deeply moving.

At the trust we felt that this is not only a great documentary but it is also a film which moves the documentary format forward, challenging the structures and techniques which we are used to, and presenting an alternative method. The result is a highly successful and accomplished film, with thought and consideration for every captured frame.

Tempestad joins previous award winners Cartel Land (2015) Profession: Documentarist (2014) and The Square (2013) in becoming a winner of the award. We wish Tatiana and her team the best of luck with this film and future projects.
