CHI YIN SIM shortlisted for One Day We’ll Understand - Now in the sixth year of her research into the story of her grandfather who left China as a young man and who returned and died under mysterious circumstances, Chi Yin Sim is unearthing a little known history of communist resistance in China and British-ruled Malaya.  The accumulated archive of images, objects, documents and interviews tells an intimate family history and serves as a record of national and international history across South East Asia that will be made available for academic research, exhibition and personal reflection.  Finally the mystery of how her grandfather disappeared from family history while leaving an unexplained monument in the ancestral village is explained.
